Remediation Projects - Impacted Soil Sites
Former Historic Truck Stop back Client: Hensley Estate, Santa Barbara, California Project: Wellton Scales--Wellton, Arizona This historic truck stop was impacted by various releases of gasoline and diesel to the soils and shallow groundwater. Initial site work had been stopped by a prior consultant. Solution: BEAR took over the project and obtained regional groundwater data. Based on the review, the limited work did not reflect the actual soil and groundwater conditions. The regional groundwater data showed that the groundwater elevations had increased as much as 12 feet and started to drop. The previous work was conducted when the groundwater elevation was near its highest point. When BEAR took over the site, the groundwater elevations had dropped below the bottom of the existing wells. The work we performed proved that gasoline and diesel fuels were smeared into the soils under the groundwater and free phase gasoline was floating on the groundwater. BEAR also showed that the floating gasoline posed a direct threat to a nearby drinking water well. A work plan for site remediation was submitted to the state agency. |
