Lake Havasu Existing Gas Station  back

Client:  Woody’s Enterprises, Inc., Wickenburg, Arizona

Project:  Lake Havasu, Arizona
During an annual tank test at an existing gas station, a leak from an UST system was discovered.

Solution:  Based on the initial discovery, a full site audit was conducted and a release point confirmed.  Work was started in 2006 on a release of approximately 7,300 gallons of gasoline with a complete site investigation, design and permitting of a three-phase remediation system and closure sampling.  Remediation removed all of the gasoline from the groundwater and soils through free phase removal, VES, and bio-venting. The work required quarterly progress reports and tracking of the VES operation.  ADEQ required various investigation assessments for air quality, groundwater water quality, potential to impact the public through vapor migration and groundwater contamination.  A risk analysis was conducted on the free product migration under an adjacent motel and the potential impacts from vapor phase migration through the soils.  Permits for this remediation included: EPA Injection Wells, ADEQ Air Quality Operational Permit for a VES, Colorado River Authority Risk Notice, and Arizona Fire Marshal Aboveground Fuel Storage Tank permit (free product recovery storage tank). The site remediation removed all of the free phase gasoline from the soils and water. The bio-venting/air sparing of the groundwater obtained dissolved phase gasoline concentrations below the Arizona Water Quality Standards.  Based on the site modeling and monitoring, closure was granted June 2009.
