BEAR provides a wide variety of environmental consulting services in addition to our remediation services.  We can provide services for asbestos bulk and air sample inspection and analysis, asbestos project design, asbestos and lead abatement project management, asbestos, lead, indoor air quality assessments, and air monitoring.  We can also provide surveys and testing for industrial contaminants such as arsenic, hexavalent chromium, silica, and mercury.

ASBESTOS
Asbestos is the name given to a number of naturally occurring, fibrous silicate minerals mined for their useful properties such as thermal insulation, chemical and thermal stability, and high tensile strength. Asbestos is commonly used as an acoustic insulator, and in thermal insulation, fire proofing and other building materials. Many products in use today contain asbestos.
Asbestos is made up of microsopic bundles of fibers that may become airborne when asbestos-containing materials are damaged or disturbed. When these fibers get into the air they may be inhaled into the lungs, where they can cause significant health problems.

LEAD
The consequences of exposure to lead include occupational exposures as well as other means of toxic transport in residential houses, playgrounds, and before, during, and after remediation. The primary sources of lead exposure are: deteriorating lead-based paint, lead contaminated dust, and lead contaminated residential soil. Lead is also tested soil, dust, and water.
In order to protect individuals from exposure to lead hazards and our clients from potential liabilities, BEAR can provide comprehensive risk assessments for facility owners and managers, developers, and potential buyers.

BEAR can provide Certified Lead Inspectors and Risk Assessors perform surveys to meet various OSHA, HUD, and EPA regulatory requirements using both destructive and nondestructive XRF Spectrum Analyzer sampling.

Project monitoring provides oversight during abatement projects with air sampling, and post abatement visual and wipe sampling for final clearance of work areas. Lead bearing wastes from demolition projects require a toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP) test to determine if a waste must be disposed of as a hazardous material or as regular construction debris.

RADON
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is generated from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water. Radon can build up in closed spaces, such as, basements within schools, houses, office buildings throughout the United States.

The United States Surgeon General and the Environmental Protection Agency have provided detailed reports on Radon and how it can cause a type of lung cancer that is the second leading cause of lung cancer, behind only smoking. Radon is reported to more lung cancer deaths in the U.S. each year than drunk driving.
